Laundry Detergent
Here is a powder laundry detergent recipe. Basically you just grate the Fels Naptha (I used my food grinder), then combine all ingredients. I suggest a five gallon bucket with a lid. If you have a lid, then you can roll the bucket around to mix it, which makes it SO much easier!
I've been using this recipe for over a year. It works great for my children's sensitive skin, and keeps our clothes nice and clean! Just put a small scoop-full (I used the scoop from the oxyclean) into the barrel of your front load or top load washer .... not the dispenser.
Ingredients:
1 4 lb 12 oz box Borax (2.15 kg or 76 oz) found in the detergent aisle
1 4 lb box Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (1.81 kg) found in the cooking aisle
1 box Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda 55 oz (3 lb 7 oz) found in the detergent aisle
You should be able to find all of these items at your grocery store. I found everything at Wal-Mart.
I have been LOVING this detergent. It seems to work well on the clothes, and we haven't had any skin issues so far (fingers crossed and knock on wood). I believe I've also read that you can use this for cloth diapers.
Now you can save TONS of money on laundry detergent (I spent about $20 total), and have something that doesn't have a lot of mystery chemicals in it!! I've read of people using this recipe and the detergent has lasted over a year!! That is some serious savings! Mine usually lasts about 7-8 months. I think it just depends on how many people you are washing for and how quickly they go through clothes.

2 small containers of Oxy Clean or store brand Oxy Clean (try to get about 3.5 lbs total (1.58 kg)) found in the detergent aisle.
(this is optional, I added it into mine because I have pretty messy kids and the cleaner the better)
